Support for the person behind the performance

Therapy for Athletes in Arlington, VA

You can love your sport and still struggle with the pressure that comes with it. Competition, demanding schedules, injuries, and expectations can affect your confidence, relationships, and mental health.

At Cedar and Summit Therapy, I help teen and adult athletes navigate these challenges, develop coping skills, and explore who they are both within and beyond their sport.

What we can work on together

  • Performance anxiety and fear of making mistakes

  • Perfectionism, self-criticism, and pressure to succeed

  • Confidence and coping with setbacks

  • Burnout and difficulty allowing yourself to rest

  • The emotional impact of injury and recovery

  • Balancing sports with school, work, and relationships

  • Team dynamics, coaching relationships, and boundaries

  • Identity changes when leaving or retiring from a sport

  • Anxiety, depression, and stress beyond athletics

An Understanding of your experience

As a former collegiate soccer player who attended IMG Academy and spent five years coaching youth soccer, I understand how meaningful athletics can be and how much pressure athletes can carry.

I bring that experience to my work as a licensed therapist, while recognizing that every athlete’s story is different. You don’t have to explain why your sport matters, and you don’t have to earn support through your performance.

Your worth doesn’t depend on your playing time, race finish, or last competition. Therapy offers space to process difficult experiences, reconnect with your values, and consider what a fulfilling life looks like for you.

What therapy with me
looks like

My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to your needs. We’ll explore how expectations, thoughts, emotions, and experiences affect your well-being, then work toward goals that matter to you.

I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills, and person centered approaches.

Our work may include managing anxious thoughts, responding to setbacks, communicating your needs, and developing a more sustainable relationship with training and competition.

Therapy focuses on your mental health and well being. Performance concerns can be part of that work, alongside everything else happening in your life.
